Kandy City Tour FAQ
What is the difference between the Classic Loop and the Royal Heritage tour?
The Classic Loop covers the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Bahirawakanda Buddha statue, Kandy Lake and the Central Market, a cultural dance show, and the Temple of the Tooth during the evening ceremony. The Royal Heritage tour is slower and focused on history: Udawatta Kele forest, the British Garrison Cemetery and National Museum, the Arthur's Seat viewpoint, and a quiet afternoon visit to the Temple of the Tooth.
How long does the Kandy city tour take?
It is a full-day tour. The Classic Loop takes about 6–8 hours and starts with pickup from your Kandy hotel after breakfast.
Is the Temple of the Tooth crowded?
It can be very crowded during the evening ceremony (puja). The Classic Loop visits then because it is the most atmospheric time, but we can adjust the timing if you prefer it quieter. The Royal Heritage tour visits in the calm afternoon instead.
What is the dress code for the Temple of the Tooth?
Cover your shoulders and knees, and remove your hat and shoes before going inside.
What is included in the Kandy city tour?
Private transport (air-conditioned car, van or tuk-tuk), an English-speaking chauffeur guide, entrance fees for the temple, gardens or forest, cultural dance show tickets, mineral water and all parking fees.
How much walking is involved?
The Classic Loop is easy, with short walks at each stop. The Royal Heritage tour involves much more walking in Udawatta Kele and the Garrison Cemetery, so wear comfortable closed shoes.
